There are these places full of creativity, every city has them.

Most of the time they’re hidden and not in the epicentre of the happenings. Good. I couldn’t imagine them being in the middle of a CBD. You might need to do some research, try out different sources, but let’s be serious: the internet makes it pretty easy nowadays.

I became pretty good in finding these places, and I am amused that most of the time the face of my co-travellers says „Where the hell are you dragging me at?“.

I love exploring cities and find their creative hearts. The alternative ones, away from store chains or fancy restaurants. I need to have the possibility to absorb music, smell the vibe of warehouses that have lived better times and have been different things. I love watching people moving into remodeled creative spaces and see what they’re capable of. I like looking to this little city villages, see how colorful an old warehouse can get and how green an industrial space can become.

This time, all the above mentioned impressions were given by a Sunday spent in Berlin, Friedrichshain district, to be correct. You’ll walk around different realities, you can be shocked by the numerous matresses on the cold ground, be amazed by street musicians or just simply laugh your butt off about club names like „Suicide Circus“.

I did all these things and ended in a corner called „Neue Heimat“. Here happens the magic. You’ll enter a village into big city and you’ll find everything your heart could possibly need: an afterhour to close your weekend right, a vintage market, visual impressions everywhere you look, photographic streetart exhibitions, gorgeous bars and delicious street food. And if the sun is smiling out of the clouds, it’s even better.

Other alternatives

Street food in the city centre: Want it? Got it! If you’re staying in Berlin Mitte and you don’t wanna miss the charm of street food then go straight to Tin Tan – a little mexican place. Be early, and enjoy the tacos!

The other kind of cinema: Sputnik is a cinema located on the 5. floor of a pretty normal looking building in Kreuzberg. You’ll feel like in your own livingroom but with great bar service. The vintage interior is amazing and the views over the city’s skyline from the balconies lovely. The highest movie theatre of Berlin – make your own interpretations 😉
